A Master Plan is a working list of action items that the community and City consider critical for the future of the park.

The city is supposed to redesign its park Master Plans every 20 years. Architectural firm MVVA was awarded the contract to develop the new Master Plans for Elysian Park and Griffith Park South in 2026. This process is expected to take 2 years.

From RaP: The new Elysian Park Master Plan will be shaped by the park's history, community input, and current site conditions. It will build on the park's natural landscape, with a focus on improving environmental resilience and the overall visitor experience while preserving what people already love about the park. It will also create a clear roadmap for both near-term and long-term improvements, with a phased approach that helps guide future investments based on community priorities.

The planning process will follow five steps:

Take the Community Listening Survey

From the RaP Survey: The City of Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks has hired Michael Van Valkenburgh Associates and their team of consultants to prepare a new Master Plan for Elysian Park. The Master Plan will help guide future improvements and long-term care of the park. The plan will be informed by the park’s history, current conditions, technical studies, and community input, with a focus on improving environmental resilience and the overall visitor experience while protecting the qualities people already value and enjoy.

We are currently in the first phase of the planning process, which includes learning about the park through research, site analysis, and conversations with community members, park users, stakeholders, and City staff.

A key part of this work is hearing directly from the people who know and use Elysian Park. This short survey should take about 10 to 15 minutes to complete and asks about your experiences in the park, what you value most, where you see opportunities for improvement, and your hopes for the park’s future.
